Students used iPads independently to access and utilize PebbleGo (a K-3 online database), and WorldBook Online for their research. Collecting new information, identifying sub topics, searching for images to support their research, and then using Book Creator or Keynote to Publish their work! Students in Room 220 spent the last couple of weeks researching various aspects of our world’s biomes. Looking at Plants, Animals and People, students created scientific drawings as well as poems to help share their learning.
Using keynote to collaboratively compile their research into biome books the students completed ebooks (in .pdf format) for the following biomes:

Students in Ms. Scordas’ class have been using PebbleGo, WorldBook DBE Library Books and additional 
resources to research an influential person. Subjects range from Sylvia Earle to Philo Farnsworth, Jane Addams to Lipman Pike.
In addition to a live wax museum presentation, students used Flipgrid to record their speeches to share with the greater DBE Community.
Moved by the description of Sudanese children struggling – and sometimes dying — to access clean drinking water, the elementary-aged crew of public school Montessori students in P5 decided to get involved. The classroom raised more than $6000 to build wells in Sudan, in just four months. They composed hand-written donation request letters, ran lemonade stands and bake sales, and drummed up community support.
As a result, the children won WFSS’s Iron Giraffe Award – and won big. The grand prize is a June visit from international humanitarian and WFSS founder Salva Dut.
On June 8, from 5-7 p.m, greater Seattle is invited to meet Dut at an informal potluck on the Daniel Bagley Elementary School grounds (7821 Stone Way, Seattle, 98103). Salva will say a few words at 6pm, followed by a book signing.
